Wait for the preliminary review

During the preliminary review, your information and documents will be checked to ensure that everything is complete. If any information or documents are missing, this will be clarified with you directly via the Consular Services Portal. In this way, everything will be perfectly prepared for your in-person appointment at the German Embassy in Paris.

Arrange an appointment

Once the preliminary check has been successfully completed, you can make an appointment for a personal interview. You will receive a link to an appointment booking page for this purpose.

In-person appointment

The purpose of the in-person appointment is to establish your identity and to submit your biometric data (fingerprints and photo). You also pay the fee on site.

Decision on your application

The Embassy in Paris will review and decide on your application.

The legal requirements will be examined on a case-by-case basis using the application documents provided. Depending on the purpose of your stay, this review may take anywhere from a few working days to several months. Depending on the legal requirements, other authorities may also be involved. The processing time will be extended if documents need to be examined more closely or if further research is required on the applicant or the actual purpose of the stay.

Please understand that we generally do not answer any questions about the status of your application during the first four to ten weeks of the processing period. We will contact you as soon as a decision on your application has been made.

Once a decision has been made on your application, you will receive a notification with further information on how to collect your visa.
